A native of Atlanta, Georgia, William Myers quickly discovered his passion for music after being introduced to the violin in sixth grade thanks to the county public school system. His first teachers were Karen McClarey and David Doke, who prepared him for attending the Georgia honor and All-State orchestra programs each year. Myers accepted a position in the Georgia Youth Symphony for two seasons in which he served concertmaster for one of those seasons. He performed with the Kennesaw State University String Quartet at the yearly conference of the international company SAUPO, as well as the final performance at Kennesaw State’s Confucius Institute’s convention.
While at Kennesaw State University, he held the position as concertmaster of the symphony orchestra, performed as a member of the Felix String Quartet, and traveled with the symphony orchestra on a concert tour in Beijing and Xi’an, China. He studied Music Performance with Helen Kim, the professor of violin at KSU. He has performed in masterclasses led by world renowned violinists James Ehnes, Stefan Jackiw, the Ying Quartet, and the Pacifica Quartet. Myers’ other achievements include competing as a finalist in the KSU Concerto Competition, performing as a soloist with the Kennesaw State University Philharmonic Orchestra, and performing with the KSU Chamber Singers.
In 2012 Myers began his Masters of Music in Violin Performance at The University of Massachusetts, Amherst under Elizabeth Chang. In 2013 he was awarded a Graduate Teaching Assistantship under Elizabeth Chang in which he greatly improved his teaching methods. He was also invited to join the Graduate String Quartet. His chamber music skills were greatly enhanced by the world renowned Chiara Quartet, Kathryn Lockwood, viola, Toby Appel, viola, and Astrid Schween, cello, and Gilles Vonsattel, piano.
During the summers of 2013 and 2014 he attended PRISMA (Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy) lead by Arthur Arnold, chief conductor of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. While at the summer music academy Myers, served as Principle Second Violin in the PRISMA Orchestra. He received lessons, masterclasses, and performed in chamber groups with Soyoung Yoon, Herbert Greenberg, Andrew Wan, Carrie Dennis, and Oto Carrillo.
In September of 2014, Myers returned to the Atlanta area. Since then, he has had engagements with the Georgia Symphony, Carrol Symphony, LaGrange Symphony, Rome Symphony, and the Atlanta Pops Orchestra. He has performed with groups such as Abbey Road at the Variety Playhouse, the Griffin Choral Arts, the Aurora Theater in Lawrenceville, GA, the Falany Performing Arts Center at Reinhardt University, and chamber music at Florence Kopleff Recital Hall on Georgia State University's campus.
In 2016 Myers accepted the position of Music and Fine Arts Coordinator at First Presbyterian Church in Marietta, GA. As the assistant to the Music Director, he managed choir rosters, music libraries, concert promotions, conducting the resident handbell choirs, and the contracting of musicians from the area. He also began the Music and Arts Institute at FPC Marietta, providing music lessons to underprivileged children. Towards the end of 2020 Myers was promoted to the Director of Media Arts, to fill the technological needs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was responsible for recording and editing the weekly worship services, supported the Cherokee Presbytery for their quarterly meetings held on Zoom, and took over managing the A/V volunteer team that help during worship services.
Having been promoted yet again in 2022, Myers is currently the Director of Technology at FPC Marietta. He is responsible for managing the network systems, security system, staff and volunteer workstations and software, and he supports the technological and presentation needs for all scheduled events within the church. He works with the head of each ministry area to ensure they have the most effective technology to support their ministries. Myers also manages any contract workers that help complete projects within the church. In 2022 with the collaboration of senior pastor Joe Evans, Myers began a new ministry called FPC On Demand, which extends the ministry of FPC Marietta outside the church walls and into several retirement homes as well as the Cobb County Jail, providing our worship services to inmates.
